Hilton Avenue Community Church is One Year Old!
We’re having a party, and you’re invited! The celebration is Sunday, October 20, 2019, beginning at 10:15 for worship.
After the morning worship service, we will have dinner on the grounds provided by our members. We’ll have bounce houses and games for the kids, too.
Highlights from our First Year
The past year has flown by, and we’ve seen God do some incredible things. One of the first things we prayed about was how to connect with our community as a brand-new congregation. We were limited in many ways, but what we had in abundance was a beautiful, big building with lots of rooms and a sizable exterior space and a solid group of enthusiastic believers.
God impressed on our hearts the need to provide faith-based activities for kids in our area. We named this outreach ARK: Arts, Recreation, and Kids! God brought over 300 kids and their parents through our doors with our ARK events. You can watch a video of one of the events here.
Last year, the leaders of the local branch of Young Life were looking for meeting space. We were thrilled to be able to open our facility to them to minister to middle school and high school kids. We count it a joy to see God use this space for His purposes.
When tornadoes ripped through our area in early March, we prayed about what we could do to be a help and encouragement to those who lost loved ones and homes. One of our members organized several book fairs through Scholastic Books. We manned the fairs at partnering schools in Columbus, donated money and books to provide four books for every elementary school student at Beauregard Elementary School. God can indeed do great things through small beginnings.
We’ve built a partnership with Southern Teal, an organization developed to meet the needs of women diagnosed with gynecological cancers, along with their families. We’re providing office, storage, and meeting spaces for this incredible group and see our involvement with their mission to increase in the coming months as they transition to servicing all people with all types of cancer. We held our first Cancer Prayer Service on Sunday, September 22; God’s Spirit worked powerfully through prayer, worship, and His Word.
Our Team Has Grown!
Neil Stephens became our Worship Leader soon after joining our congregation early this year. Our Worship Team has grown, too, with several talented musicians joining us. God is using their gifts to lead our hearts into worship in a powerful way.
In July, God led Tyler and Sarah Higgins to join our staff to minister to students. They hit the ground running, and they already minister to a large group of kids. They meet on Wednesday nights for The Gathering and then do all kinds of fun and meaningful activities.
Our Church Community
We believe community within the church is a key component to being a healthy congregation. Our Bible studies on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings are ways to help us all “grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” (II Peter 3:18)
We also believe we should follow the example of the early church in “breaking bread”! Every Wednesday at “The Gathering,” we share a meal together. We love the fellowship with our brothers and sisters in Christ and the outreach opportunities it brings, especially for our Student Ministry.
What We See Ahead
We are prayerfully considering what God would have us do in the coming year. Ministries that began this year will continue and expand. A Kids’ Ministry will provide exciting, energized, Biblical teaching for younger kids, and in the next few weeks, our playground will be completely refurbished and ready for PLAY! We see a more substantial involvement with the ministry to cancer patients and their families through Southern Teal. We are continuing to upgrade and update our incredible building.
God is doing some pretty exciting things at Hilton Ave, and we hope you’ll come and celebrate His blessings with us.
