“Enjoy the Adventure.” Is this an idea you typically associate with living for Christ? It should be! Jesus said He came to give life abundantly! Christ is speaking in John 10: 10 and says, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.”
Our relationship with Christ is to be enjoyed, not endured. That truth often gets lost. Life is full of difficulties. As Job lamented that a “man is born to trouble as the sparks fly upward” (Job 5:7 ESV).
Being a Christ-follower doesn’t exempt us from the pressures of living in a world where all kinds of things go wrong. But as Believers, we possess a life that promises, “Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day.” (II Cor. 4:16). According to James 1:2-4, we can count our trials as an opportunity for joy. Why? Because it’s in the uniqueness of the new life in us that we experience God’s real life. In this new life, we can Enjoy the Adventure!
We also trust the heart of God as He allows trials and difficulties to come. We trust His working in us through the trials to make us into the vessels He will use for His purposes. As the song says, when we cannot trace His hand, we trust His heart (Mason/Carswell).
The Spirit of God convinces us that we are more than over-comers. For the believer there is always an optimistic future ahead. At Hilton Avenue Community Church, we seek not only to live with the abundant life in our individual relationships with God, but we also strive to constantly remind and encourage one another to fully embrace that in this life Jesus gave us, we can Enjoy the Adventure!
