On Sunday, March 3, 2019, an E4 tornado ripped through the the small town of Beauregard, Alabama. This single tornado killed twenty-three and injured ninety-seven. The effects of the devastation this community suffered will not be resolved in the foreseeable future.
Relief and humanitarian agencies continue to provide aid in the area, but our small congregation is taking steps to help out in ways that perhaps slip through the cracks.
A significant number of the children of Beauregard lost everything. We’d like to do something to help replace some of that loss. We want to give them the gift of books. We understand the value of reading and imagination, especially when a child’s real world is disrupted.
Our hope is to raise enough money to give four books to each of the 460 children in the elementary school with The Summer Slide in mind:
Brookstone School has enthusiastically agreed to host a “Books for Beauregard” book fair through Scholastic Book Fairs on April 10-12, 2019 in the school library. The sale itself is for children and parents of Brookstone School, but members of the community can make donations to add to the number of books to send.
April 29-May 1, 2019: Clubview Elementary School is hosting another book fair for this endeavor.
